“…Dagon had fallen face downward on the ground before the ark of the LORD. So, they took Dagon and put him back in his place.”
1 Samuel 5:3 ESV
All Israel was in mourning, for the ark of the LORD which symbolized their covenant with the Creator had been captured by the Philistines. The Philistines placed their prized plunder before the idol of their god Dagon. But soon they would find Dagon broken before the ark and their people stricken with sickness and fear. Without the help of human agents, God would manifest His power, might and glory to the nations.
The LORD God, Creator of the heavens and the earth does not need anyone’s help to maintain His honour and glory. He is not compelled to make us succeed to ensure His own survival. God in His mercy and love chooses to reach out to us to rescue us from our sins and draw us to Himself, into a life of abundance.
